The advisory comes as the country continues to experience floods as a results of heavy rainfall, with the flood fatalities now standing at 71 after Interior ministry confirmed three more fatalities recorded in Nairobi, one in Eastern and one in the Coast region.

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a warning of isolated heavy rainfall across several regions, including the Highlands, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, South-eastern Lowlands, and the Coastal region, urging residents in these areas to exercise caution, as the downpours may trigger localized flooding, waterlogging, and other disruptions.

According to the update by KMD covering March 17 to March 23, 2026, “Rainfall is expected over Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, South-eastern Lowlands, and the Coastal region,” with isolated heavy rainfall events possible in some areas.

The department has emphasized the need for vigilance, particularly in flood-prone zones and areas with poor drainage systems, to prevent potential accidents and property damage.

Parts of North-eastern and North-western Kenya are expected to remain mostly sunny and dry, although occasional showers cannot be ruled out.

The KMD also issued a temperature outlook, noting that daytime temperatures above 30°C are likely in several areas, including the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western regions. Night-time temperatures, on the other hand, may drop below 10°C in parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central Rift Valley, North Rift, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The department urged the public to take appropriate precautions, especially during travel and outdoor activities, and to follow updates from official channels.

“Residents are advised to remain alert to weather developments and avoid unnecessary exposure during periods of heavy rainfall,” KMD stated.

The advisory comes as the country continues to experience floods as a results of heavy rainfall, with the flood fatalities now standing at 71 after the Interior Ministry confirmed three more fatalities recorded in Nairobi, one in Eastern and one in the Coast region.
